As you know, I’ve decided to write a series on “Why I Come From A Christian Perspective.”

In this article, I’d like to share the fifth answer that comes to mind:

Christianity provides the greatest opportunity for human beings – when they have faith in Christ – to spiritually see and understand reality as it is.

Interestingly, the Bible also says in Proverbs 1:7 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge.”

So, unless we have a relationship with God, we truly do not have a foundation for knowing what we truly need to know in this life.

Along these lines, one of my favorite C.S. Lewis quotes is: “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen not only because I see it but because by it I see everything else.”

Ever since I’ve been on this journey with the Lord, He has enabled me to see reality more comprehensively, accurately, and clearly.

Here are just a few examples of what the journey of faith has looked like to me:

I see that deep down, each of us has a desire to be loved. Indeed, the Bible indicates that we were in a sense made that way and God’s intent has always been to love us and allow us to experience His love as well as the love of fellow human beings.

I see the reality of true good and true evil in the world and Christianity clearly posits an origin for that good (God) and evil (Satan). It provides a basis for objective morality where God is the ultimate Standard in morality (vs. us making up our own morality) and I believe our consciences can testify to this.

I see the reality of a spiritual world, a world we cannot see. Are you aware that demons are real as is demon possession, demonic influence, and spiritual warfare?

I see a stark contrast between the ways of God and the ways of the world

I see the reality of sin (see first article) but also a solution for us in Christ who can free us from the penalty and power of sin as we put our faith in Jesus (more on this later)

I have and do experience peace, joy, and freedom in Christ in a way I never had before I knew Christ years ago.

In other words, I am not aware of a worldview that fully conveys all aspects of what I listed here apart from a biblical, Christian worldview.

Naturalism posits that only what we can see, touch, and feel is real and makes no room for the spiritual world.

And postmodernism – which is very prevalent today – doesn’t even account for the spiritual world.

And other religious and spiritual worldviews may convey aspects of reality that intersect with Christianity but either get it wrong or don’t convey it fully.

Becoming a Christian enables people to see reality more comprehensively including from a spiritual lens, and that’s Reason #5 that I come from a Christian perspective.
