Have you looked at and been sticking with your goals?

Have you made goals?

If you answered “no” to either question, it’s okay and it’s not too late! Fortunately, each day is an opportunity for a fresh reset.

By now, if you’ve been following along, I trust you at least see the benefit in having and writing out goals for yourself for the year.

In the last articles I talked about some tips including:

thinking through WHO you are and WHO you desire to be this year

breaking up your goals into CATEGORIES that work for you (examples – spiritual, physical, social, financial, family, marriage, etc.)

writing out a sentence or phrase in each of these categories that captures WHO you are as it relates to those categories.

In today’s article, I want to share more practical tips on writing out- or tweaking – your goals.

Have you heard of SMART goals?

S – specific. Are you specific about what goal you want to achieve?

M – measurable. Is the goal something you can track or quantify or measure?

A – achievable. Is the goal something you can accomplish realistically? Not too easy and not too hard?

R – relevant. Is this goal relevant to you and if so – in what way?

T – time-bound. Do you have a date or time frame by which you want to achieve a goal?

If you’re anything like me, you may experience some overwhelm reading this the first time, thinking, “This is intense! Do all my goals have to be like this?”

The answer, of course, is “no.” Remember that the whole point of writing out goals is to HELP you, not burden you.

The goals you develop and write out are for you, not the other way around!

Personally, when I write out my list of goals under the category sub-headings, they’re all a bit different:

some are more specific than others

– some are time-bound

– some are habits I want to have all year round

So, remember:

Use these tips in a way that works best for you!

And…

Preparation is an important key to setting yourself up for a great year!

My next article will touch on systems you may want to consider to have in place to stay on track with your goals.

Have a thriving year ahead!
