As you know, I’ve decided to write a series on “Why I Come From A Christian Perspective.”

In this article, I’d like to share the tenth answer that comes to mind:

The Christian worldview provides a solid, intellectual foundation for framing an understanding of biological sex, male/female differences, and marriage and family life.

While I was planning to make this article the last article, it won’t be.

I watched several interesting videos and had several interesting conversations reminding me of something that is lost in today’s world: basic distinctions between man and woman as the two only biological sexes, what a woman is and what marriage is

So regarding biological sex (or what some frame today as “gender”), the Bible is clear that there are only two identities – male and female. Here’s the relevant verse in Genesis.

“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27

It’s sad for me to say this, but even making this statement can be controversial in making circles today. Common sense has gone out the window! And I’m not saying that to be divisive, offensive, or mean but to state plainly that which is evidently true.

“..Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’ ” And he said, “‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” Matthew 19:4-6

Here, Jesus – the central figure in Christianity not only affirms that there are two biological sexes but he goes on to explain what marriage is. This same response by Jesus is recorded in Mark 10 as well.

Put plainly, marriage – biblically speaking – is between a man and a woman and does not encompass any other type of union (man with man, woman with woman, polygamy, or otherwise).

Why is any of this important and relevant?

Well, I believe when we lose a sense of reality – like the fact that there are only two biological sexes – OR when we lose a sense of God’s design – like marriage being between a man and woman – we are seeing the erosion of basic ideas that literally threaten the foundation of society and the world.

Without the key distinctions between men and women, we open ourselves to all sorts of confusion about who men are and who women are which is what we are seeing today.

And without healthy marriage, we are seeing and will see the nuclear family fall apart, increasing divorce rates, and less marriages.

And quite literally speaking without these marriages between men and women, we don’t have procreation and the continuation of the human race.

The Christian worldview clearly posits that there is male and female and provides the explanation that it is God, the Creator, who invented marriage between one man and one woman. A lack of clarity on this threatens our understanding of the world and how a society functions and grows in a healthy way. And that’s reason #10 why I come from a Christian perspective.
