Hopefully you’ve taken some time to ask yourself “what went well?” and recount the victories, positives, and triumphs of the past year AND also asked yourself “what didn’t go so well” and figured out areas where you felt stuck, failed to finish goals, or noticed some unhealthy and unhelpful habits you have.

Why, you might ask, do I emphasize these two lines of questioning?

Well, it’s good to ask “what went well?” so that:

1. we can pause and be grateful for those things, and

2. we can see what we did well and continue the habits and actions that sustained that success.

I think it’s also healthy to ask “what didn’t go so well?” so that:

1. we can ask ourselves: “what got in the way of what I desired?”, and

2. we can see what we need to do differently this year to bring about better outcomes.

(obviously, I’m not referring to circumstances and situations that were beyond our control as that’s part of life and happens to ALL of us!).

So, BEFORE you finalize goals for the new year, take some time to ponder both of these questions (“what went well?” and “what didn’t go so well?”) before moving forward.

Sometimes, it’s helpful to look back at the past and learn from it before we make plans for the future.

And, if you’re a person of faith, I’d encourage you to invite God to help you as you think through the answers to these questions…

Thinking through this could make the key difference between you having a mediocre year and having a fantastic year.

So, what will it be?

Want to move into the new year with more self-awareness and spiritual/mental preparation?

And…if this all seems a bit overwhelming, it’s okay!

Maybe consider just one thing I’ve discussed and take action on it.

Have a thriving year ahead!
