As a reminder, this series is about how we self-inflict pain into our lives by the way we think in our minds. If you missed the previous articles, feel free to check out previous ones!
If you’ve been reading this series, you’ve probably noticed I’ve spent a lot of time working on helping you build awareness by discussing various mind hacks.
Hence the previous discussions about things like becoming an observer of the mind, recognizing things like your inner critic, your drifting off into “what if” world, when you are listening to the voice of truth vs. lies, and cognitive distortions.
For the remaining articles in this series, I am shifting gears and talking about healthy ways to deal with some of these unhelpful ways of thinking we have in our minds.
Today’s topic is SUPPORT.
How is support a mind hack for healthy living?
Well, it’s a simple concept but not easy to implement.
It is simple in the sense that our minds can benefit from interactions with other healthy minds on the journey to thriving.
But this is not easy because being willing to seek support assumes you are willing to be vulnerable and share your thoughts and feelings with others. This can be scary for some!
I know the mind that I have today has been shaped and influenced by so much support I have received over the years, in terms of encouragement, teaching, and challenge.
These experiences in turn have helped me not only to recognize when I am thinking in an unhealthy way, but they have helped me learn how to have a healthier mind as I learn from others.
And truth be told, everything I’ve been sharing with you so far in this series is a result of what I have learned from all of that support over the years, whether through mentors, coaches, counselors, friends, teachers, and my faith community.
And I’m not sure what you believe, but my own personal belief is that anything good I’ve learned ultimately comes from the Mind of God who I believe is the Source of all Wisdom.
Proverbs 2:6 says “For the Lord gives wisdom” (NKJV Bible)
So, here are some questions to consider and answer so you can have a healthy mind and a healthy life:
Who do you turn to for support in your life (whether to bounce ideas, get encouragement, or find constructive feedback)?
Does this person have a mind that you admire? Is he or she someone that helps you stretch, grow, and mature? How?
If you don’t have someone like this in your life, who in or outside of your circle do you need to connect with?
Let’s THRIVE in mind so we can THRIVE in life!
